How it works

Each course includes one exercise class per week over 12 weeks. That's 12 classes in total.
Each class will have a minimum of 6 Participants, up to a maximum of 10.
Classes are free to access, so anyone can register to join.

Anyone wishing to join classes with you will need to register for the Program and complete the Welcome Session. This is to ensure the Program is safe and suitable and to ensure the exercises can be tailored to each person's exercise level and ability.

The class activities are designed to be able to be completed by anyone at home, regardless of access to equipment.

Your Instructor will help you identify basic household objects that can be used as part of the exercise activities. For example, this might include things like tinned foods in place of weights.

Those who already have basic equipment such as light weights, stretch bands, etc. may be able to incorporate these into activities, but this is not a requirement.

All Instructors have a minimum Certificate IV in Fitness and have completed the Arthritis Essentials course.

Arthritis Essentials is an evidence-based, nationally recognised unit of competency.

Accessing the Program

Arthritis Moves is a "Pay-What-You-Can" program to make sure that all participants are able to access exercise, regardless of their ability to pay.

There are 3 payment options you are able to choose from:

  • Access the program for free ($0),
  • Access the program at half price ($60), or
  • Access the program at the standard price ($120).

Regardless of which option you choose the program is the same for everyone. If you choose to pay, your payment will go towards the ongoing costs of running the Program.

Everyone who registers for the Program must complete a short questionnaire designed to identify those who may be at a higher risk of an adverse event due to exercise. Those at higher risk may still participate in the Program, however we'll just ask you to check in with your GP first of all.

If you are uncertain about undertaking exercise at home due to health concerns, please speak with your GP before starting the Program.

Once the short questionnaire has been successfully completed, and GP approval obtained where required, our very own Exercise Program Coordinator will contact you to welcome you to the Program and to find out a little more about your exercise level and ability.

The online classes and chat community are run using Microsoft Teams.

Like other video calling programs, you'll be sent a weblink by email to join into your class each week. Simply click on the link and you'll be joined into the class. There is also the option to download a Teams app for desktop or mobile.

If you've never used Microsoft Teams before, don't worry. We are here to help you access the Program and work through any technical issues.

To get started, simply find and select a suitable class time, and follow the prompts to complete your order.

Next, check your emails for our 'Welcome to Arthritis Moves' message which will include the short questionnaire to help us ensure the program will be safe and suitable for you.

We'll then be in touch with you to arrange your individual Welcome Session. During this session we'll also help answer any questions about the technical side of joining the classes and chat community.

Classes run on set start and end dates, so unfortunately missed classes can't be made up.

However, you can choose to repeat the Program as many times as you wish by re-registering for further rounds of classes.

New Arthritis Moves classes begin every few weeks. If you can't see a suitable class option just yet, keep checking for more class options opening soon.

We also want to know if there is a need for classes to be run at different times/days. If our class times are not suitable, please let us know by emailing health@arthritis.org.au or calling us on 1800 011 041.

Unfortunately, Arthritis Moves is only available to people living in Queensland. If you are not living in Queensland, look up your state or territory Arthritis office to find out what services they provide.

You can also reach your local office by phoning 1800 011 041 from within your state/territory.
