Frequently Asked Questions about our online exercise programs

How it works

Each course includes one exercise class per week over 12 weeks. That's 12 classes in total.
Arthritis Moves classes will have a minimum of 8 Participants, up to a maximum of 14.

Dance Moves classes are a little larger with around 20 participants per class.

Anyone wishing to join classes with you will need to register for the Program and complete the Welcome Session. This is to ensure the Program is safe and suitable and to ensure the exercises can be tailored to each person's exercise level and ability.
The class activities are designed to be able to be completed by anyone at home, regardless of access to equipment.

Your Instructor will help you identify basic household objects that can be used as part of the exercise activities. For example, this might include things like tinned foods in place of weights.

Those who already have basic equipment such as light weights, stretch bands, etc. may be able to incorporate these into activities, but this is not a requirement.

Arthritis Moves Instructors have a minimum Certificate IV in Fitness, while Dance Moves Teachers have qualifications or equivalent industry experience for delivery of dance classes.

All Instructors and Teachers have completed the Arthritis Essentials course. Arthritis Essentials is an evidence-based, nationally recognised unit of competency.

Accessing the Program

The total cost for the 12-week Arthritis Moves program is $96. This equals just $8 per class!

The Arthritis Moves exercise program is made available at the lowest price possible, with all registration fees directly going towards the ongoing costs of running classes.

Dance Moves is a "pay-what-you-can" program. Anyone can access the program for no cost, or may choose to contribute an amount towards the program. All contributions go towards the running costs of the classes.
Everyone who registers for the Program must complete a short questionnaire designed to identify those who may be at a higher risk of an adverse event due to exercise. Those at higher risk may still participate in the Program, however we'll just ask you to check in with your GP first of all.

If you are uncertain about undertaking exercise at home due to health concerns, please speak with your GP before starting the Program.

Once the short questionnaire has been successfully completed, and GP approval obtained where required, our very own Exercise Program Coordinator will contact you to welcome you to the Program and to find out a little more about your exercise level and ability.

The online classes are run using Microsoft Teams.

Like other video calling programs, you'll be sent a weblink by email to join into your class each week. Simply click on the link and you'll be joined into the class. There is also the option to download a Teams app for desktop or mobile.

If you've never used Microsoft Teams before, don't worry. We are here to help you access the Program and work through any technical issues.

To get started, simply find and select a suitable Arthritis Moves or Dance Moves, class time and follow the prompts to complete your order.

Next, check your emails for our 'Welcome' message which will include the short questionnaire to help us ensure the program will be safe and suitable for you.

We'll then be in touch with you to arrange your individual Welcome Session. During this session we'll also help answer any questions about the technical side of joining the classes.

Classes run on set start and end dates, so unfortunately missed classes can't be made up.

However, you can choose to repeat the Program as many times as you wish by re-registering for further rounds of classes.

New Arthritis Moves and Dance Moves classes begin every few weeks. If you can't see a suitable class option just yet, keep checking for more class options opening soon.

We also want to know if there is a need for classes to be run at different times/days. If our class times are not suitable, please let us know by emailing health@arthritis.org.au or calling us on 1800 011 041.

Unfortunately, Arthritis Moves and Dance Moves is only available to people living in Queensland. If you are not living in Queensland, look up your state or territory Arthritis office to find out what services they provide.

You can also reach your local office by phoning 1800 011 041 from within your state/territory.
