What is the Arthritis Community Wellness Program?
These events are all about equipping you with practical tools to manage your pain and enhance your quality of life. We’ll explore valuable strategies in exercise, nutrition, and mental health – all designed to help you live well with arthritis. Plus, enjoy a delightful afternoon tea with tasty nibbles and beverages, and take advantage of the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about managing your arthritis.
The seminars are completely free, and while we appreciate a gold coin donation to help us keep this important program running, your presence is what matters most!
Our informative sessions are co-facilitated with local community organisations, ensuring each event is tailored to meet your needs, all under the theme of Living Well with Arthritis.

This August we hosted a Arthritis Community Wellness Program Event in Newcastle, with well over 100 local people joining us to learn more about managing their arthritis. We heard from Orthopedic Surgeon A/Prof. David Dewar, Principal Physiotherapist Tommy Nguyen from Fitness Physio, and The Arthritis Movement’s Health Educator Mary Frack – all sharing valuable insights on managing pain, exercising with arthritis, and practical tips for living well with your condition.
Throughout the day, we explored what arthritis actually is and the differences between osteoarthritis and inflammatory types of arthritis. We were reminded of the benefits of regular exercise and movement, and the important role they can play in managing symptoms, maintaining function and supporting long-term health. By understanding pain and learning practical strategies to manage it, many of our attendees told us they felt more confident about staying active and doing the things that matter to them. Importantly, the day reinforced that you don’t have to manage arthritis alone. Attendees learnt about the value of accessing reliable health information, professional support and connection with others, and how these can all contribute to living well with arthritis.
A special thank you the team at Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, whose generous support made this event possible and to the volunteers who gave their valuable time to help out on the day. We are so grateful for your support!
We are now busy planning our next events. To stay across all Community Wellness Program events and to see if one will be happening in an area near you, subscribe to our fortnightly eNewsletter.
