About the research

This trial studies the impact of a 14 week resilience and healthy lifestyle program for people with RA.

Each participant will be randomly allocated to the healthy lifestyle program or given written information for a healthy lifestyle.

What's involved?

Those in the comparison group will receive written advice on managing RA and provide important information on living with RA

Those allocated to the program will attend weekly to fortnightly small group and individual sessions on wellbeing and resilience, healthy eating, exercise, smoking cessation and change support over 5 months.

Each participant will continue to receive their usual medical treatment and be asked to complete two assessments six months apart.  This includes

  • online questionnaires
  • wearing an activity monitor for one week
  • a phone interview and online food diary
  • measures of physical functioning and RA disease activity
  • measures of height, weight, waist circumference

In person assessment and free program sessions are at Mt Gravatt (parking provided).
