Delisting of paracetamol from the PBS
Concessional patients with arthritis will have to pay up to four times more for their pain relief following the delisting of paracetamol from the PBS from 1 January 2016.
Paracetamol is the first line treatment for osteoarthritis which affects 1.9 million Australians. Over 80% of PBS scripts for paracetamol were for the 665mg ‘osteo’ slow release formulation for persistent pain due to osteoarthritis and nearly all of these scripts were for concessional patients.
